Found a handful of bugs in a new beta version of TUI and filed problem reports accordingly. At 04:14 my observer started an 1800s exposure with DIS. At about 04:43 the observer and I noticed about the same time that the exposure counter in TUI seemed to be frozen at the end of 1800s and the instrument was not reading out. I quickly discovered that the computer that acts as the main HUB had gone down at about 04:30. Further inspection resulted in finding that likely a CPU fan had gone out on this machine since there was a high temp LED flashing on the front of the rack mounted machine. I consulted Fritz and all attempts to bring the machine back to life were not successful. At 05:30 I called my observer with the bad news that we could not continue for the remainder of the night. I was able to log into the tcc directly and park the telescope safely at the home location. I left DIS mounted in the unlikely event that Fritz would restore the hub before midafternoon so the second half observer might be able to take some cals before I need to reconfigure the instrument for wednesday nights DIS observations. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ------------------------------------------------------------------- NM01 D T/H 04:14 05:54 hven cpu high temp shutdown ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 18:40 SPIcam -291(-131) 23 76 1.2 3.3 2.9 2.3 1.5 r 1.17 18:51 NA2gdr 0(29997) 12 77 1.2 3.0 2.0 1.8 1.2 R+nd2 0.86 20:50 SPIcam -200(-38) 138 68 1.7 1.4 1.3 0.8 1.4 r 0.84 00:15 dis-slit -262(-249) 175 67 1.0 1.0 1.0 0.7 1.0 -- 1.03 00:25 NA2gdr (22834) 178 67 1.0 0.9 1.0 0.6 0.9 clear 0.84 04:10 dis-slit -294(-283) 247 73 1.4 0.7 0.8 0.3 1.3 -- 1.04 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 37 13 0 174 (S) 274 ptly cldy none 17:00 37 13 1 264 (W) 308 clear none 18:00 36 12 19 6 (N) 270 clear none 19:00 34 12 9 351 (N) 314 mstly clr none 20:00 35 13 8 28 (NNE) 287 mstly clr none 21:00 35 14 12 26 (NNE) 263 mstly clr none 22:00 35 14 8 4 (N) 282 mstly clr none 23:00 34 14 5 19 (NNE) 278 mstly clr none 00:00 34 14 17 11 (N) 257 ptly cldy none 01:00 33 14 11 11 (N) 299 clear none 02:00 34 14 10 326 (NW) 292 clear none 03:00 34 14 10 308 (NW) 292 clear none 04:00 35 13 13 286 (WNW) 356 clear none 05:00 34 13 11 299 (WNW) 298 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
