Once we did open seeing was horrific even in the near IR because of a strong wind from the NE blowing turbulent air across the ridge. Seeing remained greater than 2 arcseonds until after midnight. The tertiary rotation worked fine during checkout as well as to and from the APOLLO observations tonight. Conditions again forced us to close at 0200. Dewpoint depression was over the limit for the rest of the night. We gave up at 04:45. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:58 TSPEC -400( -899) -96 75 -9.2 -8.1 -7.5 -9.0 -9.3 Ks 2.60 22:52 APOLLO -50( 29) -78 62 -7.6 -8.6 -7.9 -8.9 -8.0 -- 2.00 00:05 TSPEC 50( -481) -95 80 -8.6 -8.7 -8.4 -9.1 -8.7 Ks 1.10 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 16 14 22 67 (ENE) 152 clear humid 17:00 15 12 31 65 (ENE) 109 clear humid 18:00 14 11 29 60 (ENE) 155 clear humid 19:00 15 12 29 55 (NE) 128 clear humid 20:00 15 9 14 81 (E) 227 clear none 21:00 15 8 13 27 (NNE) 329 clear none 22:00 16 8 18 53 (NE) 118 clear none 23:00 19 10 14 53 (NE) 232 clear none 00:00 17 9 14 33 (NNE) 973 clear none 01:00 18 10 12 8 (N) 228 clear none 02:00 18 14 16 27 (NNE) 152 clear humid 03:00 18 15 11 65 (ENE) 165 clear humid 04:00 17 15 14 11 (N) 177 clear humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
