Nick and Dave worked on the problem until late in the evening. They were confident they had solved the problem and went home. I had some problems openning up the mirror covers and by the time I was ready to do my first slew of the night they had left for the evening. As soon as I slewed the telescope the tertiary galil reported an error regarding one or more of the motor amplifiers having faulted. I tried several things to clear the error including power cycling the galil but it would not clear. Nick returned to the site and we worked on the problem until midnight at which point we were stumped. We suspect it is a further issue with the PCB1 control board that they had so much trouble with earlier today. Dave and Nick will resume troubleshooting in the morning. The telescope is unusable for the remainder of the night. Thanks go out to Dave, Nick and John B. for trying to resolve the problem late into the evening. I am spending the rest of the night working on other projects such as fastcam reductions. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU08 N T/H 17:55 00:00 Tert failure, can not command accq UW14 E T/H 00:00 05:58 Tert failure, can not command accq ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 39 21 10 83 (E) 85 clear none 17:00 36 21 5 85 (E) 49 clear none 18:00 35 20 11 41 (NE) 53 clear none 19:00 35 19 13 70 (ENE) 167 clear none 20:00 34 19 5 25 (NNE) 81 clear none 21:00 35 18 19 66 (ENE) 102 clear none 22:00 35 17 15 59 (ENE) 103 clear none 23:00 33 18 8 63 (ENE) 80 clear none 00:00 33 18 4 236 (SW) 61 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
