Velocity scales were unchanged during afternoon checkout. APOLLO got reasonable data in spite of the variable seeing. When the tertiary was moved back to NA2, it was too far off to close the clamp. Recovery only required homing the tertiary, but took a little longer than usual because I was also trying to help the users with script implementation at the same time. As discussed in previous phonecons, I focused in one broad and one narrow filter in order to look for inconsistencies in focus among the narrowbands. The two measurements did disagree with each other by 25 microns, but I really felt the difference was due to seeing variation and no real conclusions about filter focus could be made; therefore, I recorded only the narrowband focus for posterity. This effort will be continuing, especially in better seeing conditions. Second half, DIS was more severely affected by the seeing than NICFPS, but the science targets were extended anyway. Telescope and instruments behaved well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU08 N T/H 18:16 18:35 tert clamp failure, home needed ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:51 NICFPS -75( 390) 117 52 5.9 5.1 5.2 4.5 5.2 2.12 1.40 01:18 dis-slit -38( -250) 146 63 5.1 3.8 4.5 3.4 5.1 - 1.80 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 41 -6 16 22 (NNE) 252 clear none 17:00 42 -6 24 21 (NNE) 119 clear none 18:00 43 -7 17 5 (N) 152 clear none 19:00 42 -5 22 35 (NE) 154 clear none 20:00 43 -4 22 24 (NNE) 95 clear none 21:00 41 -4 20 26 (NNE) 209 clear none 22:00 40 -5 18 23 (NNE) 317 clear none 23:00 39 -6 9 54 (NE) 131 clear none 00:00 39 -7 12 78 (ENE) 162 clear none 01:00 40 -5 9 128 (SE) 141 clear none 02:00 40 -6 11 134 (SE) 126 clear none 03:00 39 -5 21 131 (SE) 94 clear none 04:00 39 -4 21 136 (SE) 86 clear none 05:00 38 3 20 129 (SE) 86 clear none 06:00 38 11 20 135 (SE) 42 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
