Probably due to the cold weather tonight. Made it a real challenge to put objects in the slit. Use Autofocus with the NA2 guider to guide as well as try to keep the telescope in focus. Poor seeing conditions all night (cold front moved in). It took 30 mins for us to get our target in the slit when it should have taken maybe 5-10mins max. I counted this in equipment as loss time. Since we were able to get science once we got the objects in the slit, I would estimate 25% time loss due to the slit problem. 10:35:37 controller error halted rotator, Rotator was -23.2 deg off after I re-init the drives. Seeing was poor all night. Foam insulation has not been installed on DISSlit camera. This is probably why we had all the shutter problems tonight with the -2C temps. Daystaff should install and night tests of shutter at or below freezing. Rotator should be re-zero'ed during the day since I only did a crude re-zero during the night. DIS Blue ion pump running high tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW09 D I/H 01:10 02:10 DIS slitview shutter sticking UW09 D T/H 04:35 04:55 Rotator controller error ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:23 AGILE -100(-665) 1.9 2.7 2.4 1.4 1.9 BG40 2.6 19:36 NA2gdr 1436(11000) 2.2 2.6 2.5 1.4 2.2 clear 2.1 20:00 AGILE -50(-600) 1.8 2.2 2.1 1.0 1.7 BG40 2.5 01:09 DISslit 125(-323) -56 34 -1.4 -2.0 -1.6 -2.6 -1.7 -- 2.7 01:26 NA2gdr 2775(22000) -60 31 -1.5 -2.0 -1.5 -2.5 -1.7 clear 2.5 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 38 11 7 3 (N) 810 clear none 17:00 37 11 10 288 (WNW) 861 clear none 18:00 36 11 1 27 (NNE) 746 clear none 19:00 33 10 13 44 (NE) 1104 clear none 20:00 35 -6 13 342 (NNW) 630 clear none 21:00 27 18 15 69 (ENE) 661 clear none 22:00 27 14 11 62 (ENE) 624 clear none 23:00 31 8 6 290 (WNW) 694 clear none 00:00 30 13 10 280 (W) 732 clear none 01:00 29 13 13 288 (WNW) 650 clear none 02:00 29 13 8 277 (W) 681 clear none 03:00 28 14 9 267 (W) 689 clear none 04:00 29 14 14 283 (WNW) 716 clear none 05:00 27 13 8 298 (WNW) 738 clear none 06:00 27 14 11 307 (NW) 719 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
