APOLLO got modest signal from one reflector. NIC-FPS gave us some trouble during checkout. After Fritz got the disk-mounting issues (from Friday) cleared up, Stephane took some images which looked normal. An hour later, I took some images which looked quite bad (binary valued in vertical strips). We power cycled the Leach controller and rebooted the computer a couple of times and got it looking normal again. An hour later while I was observing with APOLLO, the observers logged in to take their darks and it was bad again with all pixels either 0 or 512. This time a single ICS restart cleared it up (which was good, since I had limited attention to spare). Then, when we got on sky and tried to change filters to prepare for focusing, the filter wheels got lost, and got lost worse when I tried to home them. It's not clear if this was a real filter wheel problem or some kind of communications problem (I started getting messages about nicfps not being connected, meaning I had to restart the nubs). Stephane logged in and homed the filter wheels successfully, and after that everything seemed fine. The second half observer had trouble with TUI hanging up on her a couple of times, and later traced it to a corrupted configuration file. No time was lost since I was focusing and then took some images for her while we were pondering the problem. After that, everything worked well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UC03 N I/H? 18:35 18:55 NIC FW prob? or comm? ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:28 APOLLO 100( 440) -34 70 -5.2 -3.2 -3.7 -4.4 -4.6 - 1.50 19:06 NICFPS 67( -23) 108 57 -6.7 -6.1 -5.7 -6.6 -6.5 Ks 1.70 00:32 SPICAM 50( -487) -24 78 -7.2 -7.8 -7.3 -8.4 -7.7 R 0.65 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 26 9 13 78 (ENE) 575 mstly clr none 17:00 24 10 3 92 (E) 391 mstly clr none 18:00 22 10 11 70 (ENE) 417 mstly clr none 19:00 20 11 15 63 (ENE) 470 clear none 20:00 19 11 23 66 (ENE) 490 clear none 21:00 19 11 19 58 (ENE) 497 clear none 22:00 19 10 17 64 (ENE) 473 clear none 23:00 19 12 13 78 (ENE) 599 clear none 00:00 19 12 10 80 (E) 634 clear none 01:00 20 8 4 91 (E) 533 clear none 02:00 21 9 2 282 (WNW) 442 clear none 03:00 20 10 5 342 (NNW) 481 clear none 04:00 19 10 2 347 (NNW) 454 clear none 05:00 18 10 10 20 (NNE) 513 clear none 06:00 18 10 7 56 (NE) 502 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
