The first half program got a fair number of targets, although it was getting difficult towards the end. I judged that APOLLO couldn't work through the clouds (and anyway the threat was getting closer), so we did some in-dome tests. The second half observers got very little data even though we were open for almost two hours. We had no failed magnesensor measurements tonight, but the errors that were measured were uncomfortably large. Pointing with DIS showed noticable variation from target to target. The echelle was only used on one target, so no comparison was possible. Pointing may continue to be a challenge this weekend; observers and observing specialists alike should be alert for pointing errors and be sure to check field identification whenever possible. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 19:38 dis-slit -206( 308) -143 56 13.1 16.3 16.1 14.1 14.2 - 1.8 00:08 ECHELLE -123( -585) 110 51 12.5 12.2 12.7 11.8 12.2 ND2 1.5 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 66 30 10 276 (W) 263 ptly cldy none 17:00 66 34 12 245 (WSW) 224 ptly cldy none 18:00 64 30 12 224 (SW) 231 ptly cldy none 19:00 59 28 2 199 (SSW) 250 mstly clr none 20:00 55 42 9 79 (E) 711 mstly clr none 21:00 54 45 12 113 (ESE) 684 ptly cldy none 22:00 55 44 18 125 (SE) 502 ptly cldy none 23:00 55 43 16 117 (ESE) 706 ptly cldy none 00:00 55 41 18 123 (ESE) 880 mstly cldy none 01:00 53 42 24 128 (SE) 754 mstly cldy none 02:00 54 38 14 122 (ESE) 898 mstly cldy none 03:00 54 39 22 129 (SE) 783 mstly cldy none 04:00 54 38 24 128 (SE) 727 ptly cldy none 05:00 52 43 24 125 (SE) 790 ptly cldy none 06:00 52 46 30 149 (SSE) 812 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
