Ketzeback AZ Velocity Scale: Checkout - (temp 17.3) was 577, measured average 573, changed to 571 First half went smoothly, about an hour of bad seeing. The rest of the first half the seeing was moderate to poor. During second half my observer reported he could not slew at about 2am. A quick investigation showed that the telescope control computer (tcc) had killed the telrun processes. I restarted the software and got us back on sky in short order. My user again reported the same problem again 30 minutes later. This time I was unable to login or ping the tcc. A visual inspection in the computer room showed a fan failure and high temperature alarm lights flashing. I swapped the CPU with the spare tcc computer and booted it up. I then called Fritz so he could restore backed up config files. Since the spare tcc was a version behind in the software (2.9.0), he also needed to setup the NNTP server so sync the computer time with UT time. After he finished I was able to get back on the sky, correct pointing and correct the boresight for the slit we were using before turning it back over to the user. Seeing was quite good second half. Dust levels were elevated sometime after 10pm until morning. We ran in a modified ventilation configuration most of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DD02 D T/H 08:36 09:45 tcc35m overheated.
