Patchy clouds moved through during the night, occasionally causing some difficulty but not preventing observations. Seeing was mediocre but not too bad despite a brisk east wind. Since work was done on the altitude today, we wanted to check the altitude velocity scale as well as the recently-troublesome azimuth. It turned out altitude looked much the same as ever, and azimuth only changed moderately during the night. At checkout: air temp ~21 Az velocity scale: 578 Alt velocity scale: -633 At changeover: air temp ~16 Az velocity scale: 575 The second half observer tracked through an azimuth direction reversal. We noted some tracking troubles starting at or shortly after the direction reversal, but they cleared up within less than ten minutes. This is acceptable behavior, since the azimuth will never be entirely happy with reversals. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:40 DISslit 143(325) -108 75 17.2 19.18 18.46 19.30 17.50 - 1.2 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 69 27 1 282 (WNW) 526 ptly cldy lt rain 17:00 71 28 9 330 (NNW) 441 ptly cldy none 18:00 71 28 12 85 (E) 467 ptly cldy none 19:00 71 26 2 157 (SSE) 455 ptly cldy none 20:00 68 24 9 129 (SE) 449 ptly cldy none 21:00 64 32 19 88 (E) 849 ptly cldy none 22:00 63 33 16 85 (E) 733 mstly clr none 23:00 62 33 18 82 (E) 731 ptly cldy none 00:00 63 33 18 116 (ESE) 632 ptly cldy none 01:00 62 33 18 121 (ESE) 600 mstly clr none 02:00 63 32 18 134 (SE) 620 mstly clr none 03:00 63 31 16 152 (SSE) 595 mstly clr none 04:00 63 30 14 169 (S) 559 ptly cldy none 05:00 62 31 17 161 (SSE) 524 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
