We were able to open in time to get a few twilight flats. Thin clouds moved through during the first few hours of the night, then it was clear thereafter. There were some isolated wind gusts over the limit from time to time, but I felt safe staying open since we were pointed away from the wind and there were no signs of tracking troubles. Poor seeing at the beginning of the night improved to subarcsecond in the last few hours of the morning. We lost a few minutes when the NA2 guider crashed and the controller needed to be power-cycled; the observer didn't want to start her long exposure until the guider was ready. This crash came after the only slew where I pressed Stop Guiding (mostly it stopped on its own, which I believed could sometimes induce crashes); however, I remembered a little late and pressed the button almost simultaneously with the start of the slew, which may have been related. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UV01 S T/S 22:32 22:37 NA2gdr hangup ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:40 SPIcam -25(67) 59 38 3.6 3.21 2.54 2.82 3.28 R 2.0 01:15 DISslit -200(-305) -30 56 2.4 2.36 1.90 2.08 2.22 -- 1.4 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 36 23 14 287 (WNW) 885 cloudy none 17:00 37 24 21 329 (NNW) 571 mstly cldy none 18:00 38 21 16 323 (NW) 316 mstly cldy none 19:00 38 22 26 316 (NW) 186 ptly cldy none 20:00 38 21 18 325 (NW) 207 ptly cldy none 21:00 38 22 12 332 (NNW) 204 mstly clr none 22:00 38 23 20 329 (NNW) 227 clear none 23:00 38 22 14 324 (NW) 221 clear none 00:00 38 22 19 326 (NW) 187 clear none 01:00 37 21 16 354 (N) 217 clear none 02:00 36 24 23 10 (N) 239 clear none 03:00 36 24 21 355 (N) 240 clear none 04:00 35 24 24 12 (NNE) 211 clear none 05:00 35 24 11 339 (NNW) 214 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
