We were able to stay open and observe all evening. At 19:00 Don reported that several of his calibration frames taken with the echelle were blank/biases. He then reported that the instrument showed even though he was in the middle of a ThAr that the shutter indicated it did not open. There was not error message from the instrument. I homed the echelle shutter, then sent commands to manually make the shutter open and close, I then took 2 short exposures and found that the shutter was now indicating opening and closing during exposures. I returned control to Don but his next ThAr still showed very low counts. I had him cycle the Cal Mirror in and out of place and then back in. Apparently the mirror was showing a condition of 'Lamps' when it was actually in 'Sky'. This took care of the problems and Don was able to get cals after his time was up, so no time was lost even though we worked on the problems for about 30 minutes. At 21:40, W.Zheng reported via phone that his TUI had frozen and he had lost connection. While he tried to reconnect remotely I was able to service observe for him. About 10 minutes was lost until he got back on line and was able to resume observations himself. No other problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DD05 N T/SU 21:40 21:50 Loss of remote TUI connection. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:52 Echelle 15(-614) 205 45 8.4 9.7 8.9 9.0 8.5 nd2 1.2 21:15 nicfps 25(663) 224 71 9.2 8.8 8.3 8.8 9.1 H 0.87 21:20 NA2gdr -5000(40100) 227 70 9.2 8.8 8.3 8.9 9.1 R+nd2 0.71 22:28 nicfps 34(700) 170 44 9.1 8.9 8.3 8.8 9.0 H 0.9 01:16 dis-slit -47(33) 220 78 7.2 7.3 7.0 7.3 7.2 - 1.4 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 55 24 23 213 (SSW) 407 mstly cldy none 17:00 52 22 17 206 (SSW) 415 mstly cldy none 18:00 50 24 15 196 (SSW) 452 mstly cldy none 19:00 47 24 30 209 (SSW) 618 mstly cldy none 20:00 48 21 20 181 (S) 643 mstly cldy none 21:00 48 21 27 192 (SSW) 709 mstly cldy none 22:00 49 18 27 199 (SSW) 575 mstly cldy none 23:00 47 18 26 202 (SSW) 558 mstly cldy none 00:00 47 17 24 194 (SSW) 459 mstly cldy none 01:00 46 21 20 192 (SSW) 637 mstly cldy none 02:00 44 22 23 195 (SSW) 672 mstly cldy none 03:00 42 24 18 188 (S) 895 mstly cldy none 04:00 42 24 24 200 (SSW) 741 mstly cldy none 05:00 41 25 24 208 (SSW) 577 mstly cldy none 06:00 39 24 26 224 (SW) 725 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
