Apollo got returns on three retroreflectors tonight. The next observers reported some trailing that appeared to be due to the instrument exposing before the dither offset was finished in a few instances. They ran out of targets for the night by 23:40 and turned over the telescope to me or the second half observer to use. While I waited for the second half observer to log in I ran some on sky pointing checks with xephemeris to move the telescope about. I got a few nice images of Saturn on the Echelle Slitviewer doing this. Then I turned over the telescope to the next observer for the remainder of the night. I emailed some information to Russet regarding the potential trailing issue from the first half. Motions were aligned approximately 45 degrees to the Alt and Az directions in at least two examples I looked at, which was a bit puzzling and led me to conclude it may have been a dithering issue. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:38 apollo -25(864) 109 78 7.3 8.3 7.6 7.5 7.5 - 1.0 21:00 nicfps -46(532) 112 66 7.8 7.3 6.8 7.2 7.25 Ks 0.8 21:07 NA2gdr -3158(41941) 115 67 8.0 7.3 6.7 7.2 7.3 R+nd2 0.81 23:54 Echelle -104(-867) 279 64 6.4 6.4 5.8 6.0 5.9 nd2 0.8 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 49 26 5 321 (NW) 286 mstly clr none 17:00 48 20 13 286 (WNW) 329 mstly clr none 18:00 50 20 13 286 (WNW) 229 mstly clr none 19:00 46 20 6 337 (NNW) 189 mstly clr none 20:00 45 18 9 11 (N) 210 mstly clr none 21:00 46 17 6 5 (N) 221 clear none 22:00 44 20 7 314 (NW) 229 clear none 23:00 47 20 4 273 (W) 248 clear none 00:00 44 20 7 181 (S) 225 mstly clr none 01:00 44 18 5 176 (S) 266 ptly cldy none 02:00 44 20 7 179 (S) 228 mstly clr none 03:00 43 20 8 179 (S) 241 mstly clr none 04:00 42 21 10 181 (S) 277 mstly clr none 05:00 43 20 9 184 (S) 342 mstly clr none 06:00 43 21 7 181 (S) 342 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
