Echelle slitviewer died around GMT 4:54 with ecamera giving timed out errors. Timbuktu could not talk to the Slit computer. Slitty was power-cycled and everything came back. Seeing continued to be troublesome for the slitviewer to stay on guiding. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Toward the end of first half, the observer was having trouble getting anything due to the poor seeing; manual guiding was necessary. Seeing also hampered APOLLO; although it improved from awful to merely poor by the end of the APOLLO run, we got no returns. The final echelle run had variable seeing, sometimes almost reasonable and sometimes bad enough to cause guiding problems. I made lots of progress on the Q2 schedule and other paperwork. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 18:35 Echelle -105(-1218) 4 50 -3.7 -1.7 -2.8 -3.4 -3.2 ND2 1.0 20:45 Echelle -206(-1391) -50 50 -5.5 -4.7 -4.9 -5.2 -5.3 ND1 2.4 01:36 Echelle -230(-1554) -10 43 -9.1 -8.7 -9.1 -9.1 -9.0 Clear 1.3 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 15:55 26 2 7 267 (W) 356 clear none 16:55 29 2 8 269 (W) 350 clear none 17:55 27 3 6 279 (W) 350 clear none 18:55 25 4 7 277 (W) 373 clear none 19:55 25 3 4 129 (SE) 370 clear none 20:55 22 0 4 89 (E) 373 clear none 21:55 21 1 10 279 (W) 490 clear none 22:55 20 1 7 27 (NNE) 581 clear none 23:55 18 0 6 23 (NNE) 1023 clear none 00:55 17 -3 9 11 (N) 1031 clear none 01:55 15 -2 11 10 (N) 833 clear none 02:55 13 1 10 12 (NNE) 964 clear none 03:55 12 -9 12 14 (NNE) 456 clear none 04:55 12 -29 9 24 (NNE) 118 clear none 05:55 11 -33 12 17 (NNE) 88 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
