Clouds started to appear around 22:00 and got progressively thicker with time. By the end of first half the cloud cover was too thick to see any stars. The first half observer gave up a little early for the Pluto Occulation team. Unfortunately not much was accomplished other than timing tests. The clouds were too thcik for the event however as we were setting up for a miracle break in the clouds the nicfps ics computer crashed hard. I had a great deal of trouble recovering from what appeared to be an nfs mounting problem. I resorted to calling Stephane Beland at Goddard who suggested a fix. By the time I recovered the occulation had passed 20 minutes before. The last user of the night was not able to get much of anything through the thick clouds either. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU03 N I/SH 04:40 05:30 could not mount nfs disk Z: ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 19:04 blue_dis -325(-54) 113 45 11.3 13.2 11.9 11.7 11.2 - 1.47 19:07 NA2gdr -1744(22355) 115 47 10.9 13.0 11.8 11.7 11.1 R+nd2 1.2 01:10 nicfps -19(701) 284 67 11.6 10.8 10.3 11.0 11.4 Ks 1.1 05:05 Echelle -25(-674) 160 78 9.1 9.1 8.6 9.2 8.9 nd1 0.91 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 60 18 14 301 (WNW) 303 clear none 17:00 60 19 8 274 (W) 281 clear none 18:00 56 13 10 303 (WNW) 267 clear none 19:00 54 16 8 301 (WNW) 295 clear none 20:00 52 14 10 12 (NNE) 333 clear none 21:00 53 -7 9 325 (NW) 66 clear none 22:00 51 14 3 257 (WSW) 282 ptly cldy none 23:00 51 17 5 187 (S) 335 mstly clr none 00:00 51 18 7 182 (S) 394 mstly cldy none 01:00 51 15 7 183 (S) 413 cloudy none 02:00 53 16 8 269 (W) 460 mstly cldy none 03:00 52 17 12 233 (SW) 605 mstly cldy none 04:00 49 14 11 215 (SW) 374 cloudy none 05:00 48 21 13 248 (WSW) 747 cloudy none 06:00 49 22 14 269 (W) 941 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
