When the cloud edge reached us, I opened, but soon closed due to nearby radar returns in the basin. Those took their sweet time dissipating, then I re-opened. Observations with the echelle went smoothly, with pointing very consistent with the previous night. After midnight, more radar returns started showing up in the North. As with the first half rain, it stayed just about twenty miles away while the sky above us was mostly clear. When I felt the rain threat was pretty much gone, other clouds started to move in above us. Nevertheless, various test procedures were accomplished in preparation for next week's occultation. By dawn, heavy clouds were moving in again and rain approaching. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:30 Echelle -71(-743) 19 44 7.9 8.33 7.51 7.84 7.84 ND1 1.2 22:30 Echelle -120(-831) -22 42 7.3 7.28 6.30 6.89 7.03 Clear 1.4 00:18 NICFPS -49(503) -71 61 7.0 7.18 6.22 6.74 6.75 Ks 0.96 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 50 20 17 239 (WSW) 592 cloudy none 17:00 48 20 11 236 (SW) 611 cloudy none 18:00 47 17 18 232 (SW) 643 cloudy none 19:00 47 15 11 263 (W) 619 cloudy none 20:00 47 11 10 236 (SW) 575 ptly cldy none 21:00 47 9 13 249 (WSW) 545 mstly clr none 22:00 45 9 9 266 (W) 457 mstly clr none 23:00 45 12 9 316 (NW) 490 mstly clr none 00:00 44 10 8 1 (N) 554 ptly cldy none 01:00 43 18 18 11 (N) 505 mstly cldy none 03:00 41 17 8 2 (N) 493 ptly cldy none 04:00 40 16 8 4 (N) 721 ptly cldy none 05:00 41 13 6 13 (NNE) 929 mstly cldy none 06:00 41 11 11 21 (NNE) 868 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
