Humidity was looking like a possible problem in the afternoon but dropped sharply around sunset. During checkout I found that tertiary actuator C was off by a large amount; it had apparently failed a move a couple of nights ago but went unnoticed since the telescope wasn't being used. I did some test moves, which were successful, and with Mark's agreement I homed the tertiary remotely rather than monitoring in person. All tertiary moves tonight were successful. Telescope and instruments behaved well; APOLLO got returns from multiple reflectors, but not record-breakers. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:34 SPICAM -73( 44) 6 57 2.7 3.1 3.6 2.2 3.6 i 1.38 00:28 NICFPS -235( 221) 171 83 2.7 2.4 2.0 1.1 2.2 Ks 0.80 05:19 APOLLO -165( 599) 59 60 2.7 2.0 1.8 1.4 2.5 - 1.30 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 32 22 1 44 (NE) 1313 clear none 17:00 35 -10 16 19 (NNE) 229 clear none 18:00 36 -10 23 18 (NNE) 227 clear none 19:00 36 -12 16 30 (NNE) 109 clear none 20:00 36 -10 9 46 (NE) 121 clear none 21:00 37 -10 10 10 (N) 225 clear none 22:00 41 -8 11 49 (NE) 67 clear none 23:00 40 -8 2 198 (SSW) 61 clear none 00:00 34 1 6 196 (SSW) 443 clear none 01:00 39 -9 1 306 (NW) 127 clear none 02:00 34 6 1 216 (SW) 486 clear none 03:00 35 0 3 286 (WNW) 422 clear none 04:00 36 -9 8 352 (N) 140 clear none 05:00 37 -9 9 357 (N) 118 clear none 06:00 42 -5 3 16 (NNE) 81 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
