Fritz worked on the new axis controller until nearly 21:00, and left it controlling the rotator for me to do some tests during the night. Unfortunately, the TCC couldn't talk to the rotator so I didn't get any testing done. I looked over last night's pointing model and found a minor procedural problem that likely explains the increased scatter. The model parameters are very reasonable (in fact, hardly changed at all from last month), so I implemented it with only two outliers removed. I also reduced last night's Shack-Hartmann data and found (gasp!) that a collimation adjustment is in order. It isn't a huge change, but is larger than what we've been seeing since the new top end was installed last year, and large enough to have a slight impact on image quality. Since adjusting collimation by translating the secondary mirror has only a small effect on pointing (unlike the effect of tilting the secondary), I applied the new numbers even though I couldn't get a followup pointing model. It should just be an offset of a few arcseconds on the sky, easy to compensate for. I also did some work on documentation for observing specialists and testing of tertiary rotation; I couldn't produce a failure. TUI 1.4.3 worked fine for me except for a small bug in the enclosure controller, which I reported. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 39 35 17 268 (W) 317 cloudy humid 17:00 39 40 18 282 (WNW) 4115 cloudy humid 18:00 40 41 23 273 (W) 1935 cloudy fog 19:00 40 41 18 268 (W) 1340 cloudy fog 20:00 40 40 10 270 (W) 5124 cloudy lt rain 21:00 39 40 21 247 (WSW) 10245 cloudy fog 22:00 40 40 17 268 (W) 1733 cloudy lt rain 23:00 41 42 18 269 (W) 8674 cloudy lt rain 00:00 40 41 20 244 (WSW) 17451 cloudy lt rain 01:00 40 41 12 258 (WSW) 3862 cloudy rain 02:00 41 41 17 264 (W) 20221 cloudy rain 03:00 41 42 18 248 (WSW) 14710 cloudy rain Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
