Fritz tested and spent alot of time tuning the new rotator axis controller the start of the night. There was some unexpected problem interfacing the new software with the tcc however Fritz believes he knows how to fix this particular problem. At 2200 we switched back to the old controller, zeroed the rotator and ran some test slews. I then started a large pointing model. The results of the 120 point fit were quite bad. I spent some time editing out points to improve the solution but I ended up with a 58 point data set when was all said and done to get the errors to around 3 arcseconds. I did implement the model however it might be best to resort back to the last pointing model after Russet and Mark have time to review the plots. Another pointing model may be required. I next spent several hours collecting fastcam data. The tcc was not recording weather data. Perhaps as a result of some other tcc tests that were being done this evening by John Brinkman. The lack of weather data caused my data logger for fastcam to fail however I will mine weather data from another source when I reduce tonights datasets. I ended up the night using the Shack-Hartmann to check collimation under fair to good seeing conditions. No other problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 22:32 GUIDER 100( 284) 95 78 5.8 5.5 5.8 4.9 5.5 R 1.41 03:15 FASTCAM3 -350(1086) 234 59 10.0 4.5 5.0 4.0 4.6 - 1.50 04:58 SHACK -200( 486) -99 62 4.4 4.3 4.7 4.1 4.4 - 1.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 44 15 12 281 (W) 175 mstly cldy none 17:00 43 14 15 292 (WNW) 173 mstly cldy none 18:00 43 17 15 294 (WNW) 367 ptly cldy none 19:00 44 16 8 309 (NW) 349 ptly cldy none 20:00 44 18 9 315 (NW) 269 mstly clr none 21:00 42 19 7 260 (W) 306 mstly clr none 22:00 43 20 12 264 (W) 286 clear none 23:00 44 21 13 248 (WSW) 286 clear none 00:00 43 21 16 244 (WSW) 374 clear none 01:00 41 20 15 226 (SW) 389 clear none 02:00 40 21 14 251 (WSW) 315 clear none 03:00 41 21 14 265 (W) 247 clear none 04:00 40 21 15 270 (W) 253 mstly clr none 05:00 40 23 16 268 (W) 387 mstly cldy none 06:00 39 25 15 262 (W) 401 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
