Seeing was moderate to good even though the wind was out of the S-SE tonight. During checkout and at each of the instrument changes tonight I had repeated failures of the tertiary rotation axis each time it was commanded to a port. Many repeated homes and moves finally worked during afternoon checkout going from NA2 to NA1. The move from NA1 to BC1 at the end of first half failed due to the clamp but corrected itself after just one home. While trying to move from BC1 to NA2 after the APOLLO time the position error was too large. It took just one home to get it to move properly to NA2. No other moves were made for the evening. A detailed report was attached to the existing PR. My CU observer reported problems running TUI-1.4.3 on his IntelMac. Apparently windows would change position on their own and menus would appear disconnected from their respective widgets. I was also running the PPC version of 1.4.3 locally and did not have a similar problem. I did experience one instance where TUI locked up all functionality and I had to resort to a force quit to regain control. No other problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW15 A T/H 00:05 00:11 TertRot Error excessively large CU06 N T/H 01:05 01:11 TertRot Error excessively large ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 17:51 ECHELLE -178(-1077) 45 73 1.0 2.4 1.7 1.5 1.3 nd2 0.90 00:29 APOLLO -75( 633) 63 61 2.7 2.4 2.1 2.4 2.8 -- 1.00 01:18 NICFPS -104( 298) 96 73 2.9 2.4 2.1 1.6 2.4 H 0.60 01:24 NA2gdr -3218(41882) 97 74 2.8 2.4 2.1 1.7 2.5 R+nd2 0.87 02:19 NICFPS -124( 294) 259 50 3.0 2.4 2.1 1.6 2.6 H 0.90 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:00 34 5 9 352 (N) 467 mstly cldy none 18:00 34 3 4 13 (NNE) 463 mstly cldy none 19:00 35 4 12 28 (NNE) 338 mstly cldy none 20:00 36 2 6 13 (NNE) 275 mstly cldy none 21:00 38 0 12 20 (NNE) 178 ptly cldy none 22:00 37 0 9 78 (ENE) 74 mstly clr none 23:00 36 0 6 103 (ESE) 90 ptly cldy none 00:00 37 0 7 109 (ESE) 139 ptly cldy none 01:00 37 -1 1 179 (S) 109 ptly cldy none 02:00 37 0 6 96 (E) 93 ptly cldy none 03:00 37 0 4 99 (E) 110 ptly cldy none 04:00 37 0 5 117 (ESE) 81 ptly cldy none 05:00 36 2 13 144 (SE) 207 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
