Another clear night, with excellent seeing for most of first half, moderate around midnight, then more good seeing second half. NIC-FPS was well behaved again. I installed the magnesensor. Some instrument characterization experiments continued, but given the excellent observing conditions the observers decided to do some comparatively straightforward imaging instead of Fabry-Perot work tonight. Seeing was somewhat unstable at the time and position for APOLLO, but moments of good seeing broke yet another record. The telescope tracking was also not great at this position (low in the WSW), so that adds a little to the desirability of getting a pointing model during the upcoming engineering. The tertiary gave no trouble in changing to and from APOLLO. No problems second half. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:56 NICFPS -151( 639) -113 71 9.9 11.4 11.2 10.2 10.1 Ks 0.62 17:58 NA2gdr -3000(40000) -112 71 9.9 11.3 11.2 10.2 10.0 R 0.73 00:24 dis-slit -135( 34) 160 68 9.2 8.6 9.1 7.6 8.4 - 0.83 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 51 16 1 218 (SW) 387 clear none 17:00 51 8 7 355 (N) 129 clear none 18:00 50 8 7 1 (N) 164 clear none 19:00 50 7 9 1 (N) 140 clear none 20:00 52 7 5 346 (NNW) 53 clear none 21:00 50 7 6 355 (N) 104 clear none 22:00 50 8 4 336 (NNW) 174 clear none 23:00 48 10 6 358 (N) 237 clear none 00:00 49 14 9 342 (NNW) 342 clear none 01:00 48 14 5 284 (WNW) 408 clear none 02:00 48 14 7 272 (W) 342 clear none 03:00 48 14 6 267 (W) 401 clear none 04:00 48 14 5 266 (W) 479 mstly clr none 05:00 46 17 8 217 (SW) 502 mstly clr none 06:00 44 18 9 248 (WSW) 631 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
