The ion pump gauge on nicfps remained pegged high for greater than the last 24 hours. The instrument was pumped on in the afternoon but that did not correct the problem. It is likely the ion pump has failed and will need to be replaced in the near future. Corey was able to get the pressure and temperature monitoring in the hub working again today. Thanks Corey! We will continue to monitor the dewar temperatures closely in the mean time. During first half the tertiary clamp would not engage during a move from NA2 to NA1. A home of rotation and back to NA1 cleared the problem. About 7 minutes were lost. A special DD observation scheduled for second half tonight was not necessary. The PI contacted me and said the needed observation was obtained elsewhere. At 4am I ran out of SN targets and turned the telescope over to H.Lin from UC who used the remainder of second half. No other problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW05 D T/H 22:46 22:53 Tert clamp would not engage at na1 ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 19:15 SPICAM -77( 305) 86 73 8.2 10.0 9.5 8.8 8.2 R 0.7 19:21 NA2gdr -570(31530) 86 76 8.2 9.8 9.4 8.6 8.2 R+nd2 0.7 23:54 ECHELLE -84(-761) -79 78 7.9 7.6 7.9 7.6 7.8 nd2 0.9 01:30 dis-slit -112(-18) 82 77 7.3 6.9 7.3 6.4 6.8 - 1.4 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 50 30 15 297 (WNW) 499 clear none 17:00 48 31 13 296 (WNW) 546 clear none 18:00 47 31 11 268 (W) 948 clear none 19:00 46 30 12 260 (W) 871 clear none 20:00 46 30 11 264 (W) 913 clear none 21:00 46 30 13 265 (W) 779 clear none 22:00 45 30 16 277 (W) 796 clear none 23:00 46 30 10 270 (W) 680 clear none 00:00 44 30 15 263 (W) 620 clear none 01:00 45 27 14 304 (NW) 547 clear none 02:00 44 26 9 354 (N) 534 clear none 03:00 45 24 9 304 (NW) 488 clear none 04:00 45 23 13 306 (NW) 520 clear none 05:00 45 22 9 325 (NW) 609 clear none 06:00 45 22 5 46 (NE) 460 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
