We closed for clouds and threat of rain, then opened when the clouds thinned, closed again for high humidity, opened again when humidity dropped... CorMASS was feeling somewhat temperamental, but it settled down long enough for us to get the critical data on the target. Then it went wonky again. The altitude encoder was replaced during the day, and magnesensor errors on altitude were much improved. Pointing on the sky (with DIS) was better tonight, but still not quite as good as I would like. It might be worthwhile to obtain a pointing model now that we have a working encoder. APOLLO got no returns from the moon despite good conditions and no obvious problems. A disappointing way to end the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:44 CORMASS -25( 551) -23 40 14.0 14.9 14.7 14.1 14.1 Ks 0.6 20:48 dis-slit -1( 441) 54 35 13.6 14.0 14.3 13.3 13.6 - 1.2 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 63 43 16 269 (W) 380 clear none 17:00 64 41 9 270 (W) 559 clear none 18:00 61 41 14 242 (WSW) 633 clear none 19:00 57 41 10 242 (WSW) 696 clear none 20:00 57 42 15 218 (SW) 725 clear none 21:00 56 44 17 228 (SW) 642 ptly cldy none 22:00 57 44 15 243 (WSW) 609 mstly cldy none 23:00 57 45 13 235 (SW) 622 mstly cldy none 00:00 56 46 16 234 (SW) 614 mstly cldy none 01:00 55 47 11 257 (WSW) 530 mstly cldy none 02:00 53 48 12 245 (WSW) 578 ptly cldy humid 03:00 52 48 10 248 (WSW) 596 mstly clr humid 04:00 52 47 7 268 (W) 599 mstly clr none 05:00 52 47 9 269 (W) 589 mstly clr none 06:00 53 46 8 304 (NW) 493 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
