After trying to restart the nubs, I eventually discovered Slitty was down. After a power-cycle and nubs restart it came back. Lost about 20 mins to this. 23:50 My TUI suddenly crashed (all windows disappeared). Brought everything backup and nothing seemed to be effected. Guiding and exposing continued, so no time was lost. Apollo reports record breaking returns. Yea! 02:30 NICFPS images are not looking normal. The combined images have saturated stars that look like yin-yang symbols, half black/half white. Darks have 50K counts. Restarting the ICS, nubs and expose init didn’t do the trick. We called Fred Hearty. He suggested power-cycling the controller. We did this (along with restarting ICS, nubs and expose init). Things seemed normal. Darks were at 10-12K, saturated stars were concentric circles again. Fred recommends Fowler=4 or 8. 03:40 Turn NICFPS back over to observers. First image they take FS=4, K band, 100s and sky is back up to 50K. Fred recommends we try a backup plan. So 04:00 we switch to SPICAM. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM07 E I/H 22:40 23:00 Slitty crash UC05 N I/H 02:30 04:00 NICFPS images abnormal ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 19:15 ECHELLE -240(-765) 146 55 7.8 10.8 10.1 7.8 8.3 1.1 21:33 ECHELLE -136(-746) 141 47 9.1 8.6 9.0 7.6 8.7 1.2 02:42 NICFPS -186( 487) -83 38 9.0 7.9 8.4 6.8 8.0 1.3 04:41 SPICAM -60( 233) 81 48 8.4 7.5 7.9 6.1 7.6 0.8 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 57 19 14 246 (WSW) 693 clear none 17:00 57 19 8 215 (SW) 724 clear none 18:00 52 24 7 227 (SW) 919 clear none 19:00 45 29 7 90 (E) 1812 clear none 20:00 47 25 7 121 (ESE) 1193 clear none 21:00 48 18 11 153 (SSE) 757 clear none 22:00 48 15 10 144 (SE) 541 clear none 23:00 48 15 5 170 (S) 530 clear none 00:00 48 14 9 148 (SSE) 504 clear none 01:00 48 14 5 185 (S) 501 clear none 02:00 47 14 4 182 (S) 549 clear none 03:00 47 18 4 187 (S) 608 clear none 04:00 49 14 1 137 (SE) 596 clear none 05:00 47 17 2 144 (SE) 595 clear none 06:00 46 16 2 169 (S) 531 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
