Highly variable seeing 0.9” to 2.5” most of the night. NA2 guider locked up, lost communications. Restarting the nub did not help, ping said host was lost, so had to power cycle. Lost 20 mins. DIS slitviewer is virtually inoperable at the temps we had tonight. Every other image at 20 sec exposures is blank making guiding or focusing impossible. That coupled with the guider’s tendency to choose the row of light pixels on the left side of the image as a guide star rendered the slitviewer useless. I had to use the NA2 guider for guiding and the slitviewer’s every other image in manual guiding just to tell us if the object was on the slit. The shutter never really got better the rest of the night. I’m going to attribute a total of about 48 minutes lost over the night due to struggling with the guider. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UC02 S I/S 21:45 22:05 NA2 had to be power cycled UC02 D I/H Slitviewer shutter sticking UC05 D I/H Slitviewer shutter sticking ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 18:30 SPIcam -50(-333) -59 59 -6.6 -6.0 -6.3 -6.1 -6.4 g 1.2 02:30 NA2gdr -100(-625) 338 55 -7.9 -8.2 -8.9 -8.7 -8.7 -- 0.9 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:02 25 -5 22 244 (WSW) 785 clear none 17:02 23 -7 16 254 (WSW) 331 clear none 18:02 20 -9 14 250 (WSW) 340 clear none 19:02 20 -10 13 264 (W) 319 mstly clr none 20:02 20 -6 11 255 (WSW) 343 clear none 21:02 20 -4 12 235 (SW) 398 clear none 22:02 20 -6 20 223 (SW) 371 clear none 23:02 20 -6 14 194 (SSW) 393 mstly clr none 00:02 19 -7 11 218 (SW) 355 clear none 01:02 18 -4 14 202 (SSW) 483 clear none 02:02 18 -3 10 253 (WSW) 584 clear none 03:02 18 0 14 236 (SW) 547 clear none 04:02 17 1 16 279 (W) 564 clear none 05:02 16 1 9 258 (WSW) 644 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
