They persisted most of 1st half making long integrations on a galaxy frustrating, but at least we were open. Seeing was poor to moderate all night. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky Switched over to NICFPS at 01:10, clouds started getting thicker and by 01:25 (when I was trying to focus) the clouds were too thick for the observers first object. They slewed to an object more overhead (and in less clouds) and we focused there. They messed with the cloudcam today and the image displayed was pretty much worthless tonight. "Looked" like patchy clouds when we had completely overcast sky. Clouds became a little more patchy around 02:50 and the observer was able to start to see stars in her fields. She noted a gradient pattern in the subtracted images with FS=0 (Stephane had mentioned a problem with FS=1 but not with FS=0). She wasn't sure but it probably should be checked out. She noticed it in her 88 and 89 subtracted images (CU03). at 05:00 we saw lightning to our N and that pretty much made my decision for me to close for the remainder of the night. The Echelle LN2 tank was sitting at 9 PSI this morning, about 1/2 full. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:19 DISslit -300(14) 80 48 12.9/15.3 12.1 13.0 - 1.3 23:15 DISslit -175(-68) 118 85 12.4/12.8 11.8 12.5 - 1.1 01:42 NICFPS -25(549) -37 71 12.8/12.5 11.9 12.7 12.6 Ks 0.85 03:06 NICFPS -25(553) 12.4/12.2 11.7 12.3 12.2 Ks 0.8 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 60 28 10 287 (WNW) 189 mstly clr none 17:00 62 32 17 270 (W) 266 ptly cldy none 18:00 61 35 9 267 (W) 289 ptly cldy none 19:00 57 33 9 269 (W) 293 ptly cldy none 20:00 57 34 8 262 (W) 364 ptly cldy none 21:00 55 35 9 196 (SSW) 396 ptly cldy none 22:00 55 37 9 190 (S) 525 mstly clr none 23:00 55 35 3 147 (SSE) 438 ptly cldy none 00:00 55 34 5 104 (ESE) 431 ptly cldy none 01:00 57 31 1 83 (E) 463 Mst.
