My first half observer started his biases and darks about 17:30. The 2nd half observers made a time trade to get an echelle target that was in the evening sky. About sunset I noticed the secondary mirror stats were missing, and I was getting an axis need to be homed. I let my first half observer do their sky flats while I homed the secondary (actually we finished before the sky was dark enough for the flats). When the sky flats were finished they gave control over to the 2nd half program, but we needed to check/adjust pointing for the NA1 port first. That took about an hour (thanks to Russet noticing that I didn't put in the correct Epoch from 2006 Astronoical Almanac). After that pointing went a lot quicker (although we still had to hunt for Vega). Then had the observer slewed to their object and I did a quick pointing check/correction and then focus sweep and were off to taking science. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: B.Ketzeback Wind speed frequently went over the limit and gusts did not drop below 35 MPH second half and approached 50 MPH. We did not open. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:39 Echelle 125(-934) 8 57 8.9 9.4 ND3 1.3 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 53 25 23 248 (WSW) 1902 clear none 17:00 54 25 26 263 (W) 2514 clear none 18:00 52 27 26 275 (W) 1808 clear none 19:00 50 25 27 262 (W) 1971 clear none 20:00 49 27 22 269 (W) 1658 clear none 21:00 48 27 31 273 (W) 1740 clear wind 22:00 48 29 34 273 (W) 1559 clear wind 23:00 47 29 20 293 (WNW) 1531 clear wind 00:00 47 26 24 288 (WNW) 1738 clear wind 01:00 46 27 29 291 (WNW) 1306 clear wind 02:00 45 30 26 269 (W) 1837 clear none 03:00 45 32 22 251 (WSW) 1802 ptly cldy none 04:00 44 32 30 298 (WNW) 1272 clear none 05:00 45 35 35 287 (WNW) 1199 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
