Believe it or not, however the humidity kept rising. Opened on time and soon after the humidity began a slow retreat. Hovered in the 70%s all 1st half. Slitviewer lost guiding repeatedly at one point for the observer. It would not respond to hub commands, status kept saying not connected. Slitty was not available on Timbuktu so it had to be hard power-cycled. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The telescope's first slew during second half looked noisy on the azimuth dataq, and on the second slew the azimuth didn't complete the move as scheduled. I caught it right away since I was already suspicious. I remeasured the azimuth velocity scale and found a change that seemed large enough to cause noise, but I wouldn't have expected it to prevent a slew from completing. After the velocity scale was adjusted the following test slews looked better, so I gave the telescope back to the observers. Azimuth bearing service is scheduled for tomorrow and may be exactly what's needed to prevent a recurrence. Skies remained mostly clear byt not quite photometric. Humidity rose until I was almost ready to close, then backed off only to rise again just at twilight. I was conservative about humidity since the temperature sensors on the secondary (usually the coldest part of the telescope) are not reading correctly just now. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW12 E I/S 23:20 23:50 Slitty crashed PU04 D T/H 01:28 01:34 az slew failed -- vel.scale? ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:57 Echelle -75(307) 23 42 13.4 115/15 -- 1.0 22:59 Echelle -25(280) -6 52 13.0 116/17 -- 1.2 01:20 DISslit 25(1050) 118 82 12.9/13.1 114 16 - 1.4 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 66 51 11 188 (S) 621 mstly clr none 17:00 63 47 1 91 (E) 577 mstly clr none 18:00 62 49 7 119 (ESE) 761 mstly clr none 19:00 59 51 8 119 (ESE) 1133 mstly clr none 20:00 57 51 12 97 (E) 1121 mstly clr none 21:00 56 48 18 110 (ESE) 928 mstly clr none 22:00 56 49 17 116 (ESE) 982 mstly clr none 23:00 56 49 17 121 (ESE) 943 mstly clr none 00:00 56 47 15 111 (ESE) 819 mstly clr none 01:00 56 49 21 111 (ESE) 967 mstly clr none 02:00 55 48 15 113 (ESE) 921 ptly cldy none 03:00 54 49 22 125 (SE) 1033 mstly clr none 04:00 55 49 17 135 (SE) 1033 mstly clr none 05:00 54 49 18 141 (SE) 930 clear none 06:00 55 49 16 142 (SE) 988 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
