We did a quick check of collimation with SPIcam as soon as the humidity dropped and the skies cleared enough that we could open. We ran a pointing model at NA2, checked the azimuth and altitude velocity scales, then switched to the Shack Hartmann where we tweaked the PID loop and then checked collimation. Collimation was excellent. Threatening returns on radar then forced us to close the telescope. We ran some dome-closed pointing tests while we were closed to look at the mirror data. At 03:00 conditions improved enough that we were able to open again. A quick pointing check for the echelle was completed and then we determined that the telescope was ready for science. The second half observer was already logged on and waiting so we switched to that program at 04:00. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:03 SPIcam 100(1373) 184 72 13.0/14.9 121 20 U 1.7 03:56 nicfps 190(1615) 174 81 12.5/12.9 191 5 Ks 1.3 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 54 51 8 92 (E) 257 mstly cldy rain 17:00 53 51 14 80 (E) 361 mstly cldy none 18:00 55 51 14 79 (E) 410 mstly clr none 19:00 55 51 16 113 (ESE) 620 mstly clr none 20:00 56 51 13 115 (ESE) 589 mstly clr none 21:00 55 51 18 112 (ESE) 807 ptly cldy none 22:00 57 48 17 135 (SE) 552 ptly cldy none 23:00 57 49 15 142 (SE) 825 ptly cldy none 00:00 57 48 9 182 (S) 750 cloudy none 01:00 57 49 11 187 (S) 934 cloudy none 02:00 56 48 11 158 (SSE) 900 cloudy none 03:00 55 47 12 148 (SSE) 873 mstly clr none 04:00 54 47 8 180 (S) 854 clear none 05:00 56 47 9 182 (S) 835 clear none 06:00 53 47 10 180 (S) 832 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
