High gusts (~40mph), dark clouds with lightening all around, and rain sensor went off about 8:45pm. No real accumulation of precipitation, but rain drops were blowing around. Overcast and windy all first half. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The wind dropped a little after midnight, and a few holes started to appear in the clouds, but radar indicated another system approaching to our southeast. We waited through thicker clouds, then opened the cloud camera for some thinner clouds, but radar was still iffy and humidity was rising. A kewl lenticular cloud formed right over the ridgeline, which we don't normally see on this side of the mountains. I opened just before 04:00 so the observers could satisfy themselves that seeing was awful (it was). We made some adjustments to pointing, watched the image jump and breathe and waver for a while, then closed at 04:40 as another system approached on radar. We never even attempted ranging the moon. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 04:10 apollo -150(1769) 161 72 11.4/12.6 104 17 - 3.0 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 74 37 12 96 (E) 589 ptly cldy none 17:00 70 35 9 83 (E) 608 ptly cldy none 18:00 72 38 10 87 (E) 761 ptly cldy none 19:00 70 39 11 88 (E) 895 mstly cldy none 20:00 67 40 8 87 (E) 1065 cloudy lt rain 21:00 58 42 24 74 (ENE) 1047 cloudy lt rain 22:00 60 37 18 69 (ENE) 348 cloudy none 23:00 59 41 28 74 (ENE) 684 cloudy none 00:00 55 44 28 72 (ENE) 607 mstly cldy none 01:00 59 40 25 70 (ENE) 573 mstly cldy none 02:00 60 39 14 73 (ENE) 633 ptly cldy none 03:00 55 42 16 90 (E) 618 ptly cldy none 04:00 52 43 14 89 (E) 589 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
