During setup for dome flats, I noticed a light on in the pit. Found a panel open in the Apollo ILE with a light on. Brief delay at start of night due to tertiary pointing at Apollo instead of NA2, which took us a little while to discover. With tertiary facing the right way we focused and began science asap. Seeing was fairly good all 1st half as was clear sky. No other issues to report. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan The guider camera crashed hard at the beginning of the night (adding to the time it took to figure out the tertiary was facing the wrong way), and crashed again at the program changeover. Both crashes required a power-cycle; the first one also required a file to be copied into the active gcam directory. Seeing started out good second half and then became somewhat mediocre. Fluffy clouds appeared shortly before 04:00 and made life difficult for the observer. He gave up a little early and I used the time to re-measure velocity scales for the extremely warm weather. The clouds and poor seeing also caused difficulty for APOLLO. They didn't even attempt lasing until 05:40, and the seeing was too poor for returns. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM01 N T/H 21:15 21:40 Tert facing wrong way ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:00 NICFPS 150(1997) 38 34 20.2/19.54 83 7 J 0.90 23:40 NICFPS 100(1872) 4 43 18.5/18.75 147 3 J 0.90 01:54 NIC 90(1776) 14 54 18.3/17.8 203 6 H2 0.95 05:19 apollo -100(2049) 203 43 17.3/16.0 343 7 - bad ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 63 38 26 62 (ENE) 513 ptly cldy none 17:00 66 40 0 242 (WSW) 616 ptly cldy none 18:00 66 41 14 82 (E) 361 ptly cldy none 19:00 70 38 5 84 (E) 541 ptly cldy none 20:00 68 39 8 57 (ENE) 625 mstly clr none 21:00 67 35 13 77 (ENE) 558 ptly cldy none 22:00 69 33 4 86 (E) 639 mstly clr none 23:00 65 36 4 181 (S) 659 clear none 00:00 64 36 7 143 (SE) 503 clear none 01:00 64 37 5 191 (S) 502 clear none 02:00 65 38 3 224 (SW) 518 clear none 03:00 63 39 7 218 (SW) 561 clear none 04:00 61 40 0 132 (SE) 560 ptly cldy none 05:00 62 40 4 360 (N) 903 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
