The first-half observer traded the first hour of his time as payback for a GRB chase earlier in the quarter. The scheduled second-half observer was unable to use his time because of travel and gave most of it to the first-half observer (who gave it to the on-site GFP observers) except for the final hour, which was reserved for some CorMASS observations by a collaborator of the originally-scheduled observer. It all came to nothing anyway, since the weather was unusable. The better part of an inch of rain fell in the late afternoon, and heavy clouds lingered throughout first half. We worked on obs-spec training and aligning the new red grating for DIS. Once the clouds started to clear off, the humidity and dust popped up and stayed high for the rest of the morning. Until twilight! At last, once the Sloan observers had gone to bed, the humidity came down and stayed down. Fortunately, the program designated for the last hour of the night was IR spectroscopy of a moderately bright target. We were able to get useful science in spite of the approaching sun, horrible seeing, wonky focus from the warm telescope, and unusually bad pointing. So the night wasn't completely wasted. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 04:58 cormass -150(1041) 35 41 12.1/12.0 153 2 K baaad ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 54 41 19 80 (E) 3365 cloudy rain 17:00 54 46 16 85 (E) 3501 cloudy rain 18:00 53 45 26 69 (ENE) 5252 cloudy rain 19:00 52 47 19 87 (E) 3096 cloudy lt rain 20:00 51 46 14 111 (ESE) 2270 cloudy none 21:00 52 44 28 144 (SE) 2272 cloudy none 22:00 57 40 12 124 (SE) 1815 cloudy none 23:00 57 39 12 81 (E) 1945 cloudy none 00:00 50 46 18 71 (ENE) 2465 mstly cldy none 01:00 50 46 14 86 (E) 3680 mstly cldy humid 02:00 50 47 19 76 (ENE) 6531 ptly cldy humid 03:00 48 47 13 83 (E) 4467 ptly cldy humid 04:00 48 47 9 87 (E) 4879 mstly clr humid 05:00 53 42 1 181 (S) 1923 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
