We got little or no precipitation here, but the unstable conditions nearby prevented observations. We had some trouble during checkout because the TCC was not getting updates from the GPS clock server; neither was tcc25m. We guessed that this might be related to a restart of tccserv35m earlier in the day, but I didn't hear whether that was ever conclusively established or not. Jon Brinkmann and Russell Owen (who happened to be logged in via TUI for other reasons) worked on the problem and got it fixed around sunset. I decided to try opening during evening twilight so that Russell could try out his focus script, but because of the borderline weather conditions I stayed in the dome. We got through the focus script just once before I decided it was time to close again, as clouds were thickening, wind was picking up, and humidity was still on the rise. We stayed closed for the remainder of first half and most of second half due to combinations of humidity and clouds, and I did the first work for the Q3 schedule. During the last hour before morning twilight, the humidity dropped a little and we got on the sky long enough to obtain some data. In that short space of time I found several exciting new ways to mess up guiding with the slitviewer -- people get stupid around that time of day, so it's always a great opportunity for generating errors. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 04:04 DISslit -50(955) 89 62 10.3/11.7 89 4 - 1.65 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 70 29 11 224 (SW) 1957 ptly cldy none 17:01 70 27 9 269 (W) 2112 ptly cldy none 18:01 69 30 15 252 (WSW) 2588 ptly cldy none 19:01 59 46 15 82 (E) 3775 ptly cldy none 20:01 55 48 14 84 (E) 4946 ptly cldy none 21:01 54 48 17 83 (E) 3627 mstly cldy none 22:01 54 48 13 88 (E) 3131 mstly cldy none 23:01 52 48 19 84 (E) 2991 mstly cldy humid 00:01 52 48 12 77 (ENE) 3056 mstly cldy humid 01:01 51 47 16 72 (ENE) 2808 mstly cldy humid 02:01 49 47 16 74 (ENE) 3022 mstly cldy humid 03:01 50 46 10 68 (ENE) 2514 ptly cldy humid 04:01 50 45 3 90 (E) 2486 mstly clr none 05:01 51 44 0 149 (SSE) 2260 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
