A brown bear decided to be right neighborly and check out the ops building. Luckily I walked out of the control room door just as he walked in the main door. He decided maybe inside the building wasn't where he really wanted to be, especially after we made some noise. At the first focus field DS9/IRAF did something strange (on both my and my observers machine) and would not read the image in correctly. Previous spicam images (flats) were read fine. I exited DS9/IRAF and started both up fresh and it then read the file correctly. Tested NICFPS focus script on-sky tonight. First attempt failed when the star was a little too out of focus (small doughnut). nfocus centroid failed. I then let it start where it should be closer to focus, and again it failed. (same error) When I went to view an image I manually took it messed my IRAF/DS9 up again. (can't open device (node!imtool). I am guessing this may have had something with me checking the view image box. I restarted DS9/IRAF and was again able to view the images For grins I tried running the focus script one last time with the view image off, but still it could not find a star to centroid on (stars were 20-30k on FS1). I focused NICFPS manually at this point. No problems, the guider worked fine with SPIcam (I took the images, 30sec) and they didn't use it for 2nd half with NICFPS. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:54 SPIcam -50(1323) 173 74 15.6/17.3 268 13 r' 0.71 00:59 NICFPS 100(1548) 240 73 12.9/13.5 269 16 Ks 0.77 03:02 NICFPS 125(1538) 239 62 11.8/11.9 276 22 Ks 0.92 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:01 71 27 9 224 (SW) 1771 Lt.
