The observer was attempting to use the 1.2 slit with the occulting bar and observing in horizon coordinates. I redefined the boresight location using the 'set imcenter' command to place the sweet spot several arcseonds to the left of the bar. However, guiding in horizon coordinates looked like it had no effect, the star would continue to march off the slit with each exposure. The boresight showed in the guider display where I defined it and ctrl-click offsets worked fine however when using boresight guiding, the algorithm just could not keep up with the field rotation, even though the boresight had been redefined to a location still near the center of the field of view. Frustrated after several hours of repeatedly little or no success we tried reverting to manual guiding. Later in the night we had some better guiding by approximating the parallactic angle, slewing to this rotation angle and tracking in object rotation coordinates. Attempting to guide on a field star in horizon coordinates had the same poor results. We attempted guiding using the observers TUI 1.1 and my TUI 1.2b5 with the same results. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:38 dis-slit -50(1096) 136 71 15.2/15.7 10 14 - 1.06 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 65 26 0 210 (SSW) 1117 mstly cldy none 17:01 65 24 5 268 (W) 1168 mstly cldy none 18:01 62 27 0 174 (S) 1123 mstly cldy lt. rain 19:01 61 28 5 228 (SW) 1230 mstly cldy none 20:01 61 26 8 269 (W) 1407 mstly cldy none 21:01 60 27 9 312 (NW) 1693 prtly cldy none 22:01 60 27 10 318 (NW) 1916 mstly clr none 23:01 59 29 8 8 (N) 1174 clear none 00:01 58 30 9 31 (NNE) 1159 clear none 01:01 59 28 13 347 (NNW) 1020 clear none 02:01 58 28 16 357 (N) 1298 clear none 03:01 60 26 10 9 (N) 1082 clear none 04:01 60 26 1 2 (N) 935 clear none 05:01 59 26 9 6 (N) 983 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
