Seeing was good most of the night until an east wind kicked up at 04:00 -- then it got up to about 1.3" in the IR, which presumably would have been much worse if we were observing in the visible range. With the good seeing, I had more opportunity to tune tracking, and it was looking good in most parts of the sky. There's still some trouble with high southern transits, but that's from vibrations in the PMSS rather than direct azimuth tracking problems. Possibly relaxing or tuning the PMSS can help. Pointing with APOLLO was worse than usual, and considerably worse than we experience at either NA2 or NA1. It might help if we can measure some sag parameters for the tertiary mirror at the BC1 port, which has not yet been done; however, pointing inconsistencies indicate that much of the error is non-repeatable. There were also some APOLLO software difficulties which ate part of the time, and in the remaining slice no returns were obtained. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:28 NICFPS 175(1934) 117 52 16.8/19.3 276 3 J 0.71 02:13 NICFPS 125(1713) 102 50 16.2/15.2 274 5 Ks 0.71 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 73 25 11 266 (W) 2833 ptly cldy none 17:01 69 23 3 260 (W) 2821 ptly cldy none 18:01 67 21 2 251 (WSW) 2772 ptly cldy none 19:01 66 21 3 251 (WSW) 2766 ptly cldy none 20:01 63 18 2 275 (W) 2938 ptly cldy none 21:01 62 18 4 259 (W) 3509 ptly cldy none 22:01 61 17 6 255 (WSW) 3426 ptly cldy none 23:01 61 17 1 1 (N) 3522 ptly cldy none 00:01 61 17 7 330 (NNW) 3245 ptly cldy none 01:01 60 16 6 278 (W) 3378 mstly clr none 02:01 61 17 4 283 (WNW) 3470 clear none 03:01 61 18 3 305 (NW) 3499 mstly clr none 04:01 57 14 14 62 (ENE) 3429 clear none 05:01 55 16 17 71 (ENE) 3060 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
