At the same time I used the APOLLO video to check tracking/tuning (one small adjustment made, otherwise I was limited by seeing as last night), and used observations of a spectrophotometric standard to check for a return of blue-side contamination on DIS (no sign of it so far). While we were working with APOLLO, the wind shifted to the east and humidity picked up, and the stars poofed up like pastries. Surprisingly, dust dropped at the same time. Humidity continued to rise for the next few hours while DIS was in use. Since there had been very little exposure to dust tonight, I figured it was safe to stay open while the humidity climbed, although I did decide to close while the dewpoint depression was still more than 1 C from the limit (RH 79%). I didn't record any focus data because the telescope temperatures were never anywhere near equilibrium and the seeing was horrible anyway (sometimes over 5 arcseconds). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 59 18 16 293 (WNW) 4538 clear none 17:01 59 20 9 297 (WNW) 4007 clear none 18:01 58 18 2 288 (WNW) 4397 clear none 19:01 56 18 2 312 (NW) 4154 clear none 20:01 54 18 5 359 (N) 3927 clear none 21:01 55 22 4 285 (WNW) 3743 clear none 22:01 53 21 5 259 (W) 4007 clear none 23:01 52 22 7 189 (S) 3810 clear none 00:01 53 20 6 82 (E) 4577 clear none 01:01 44 34 12 78 (ENE) 2827 clear none 02:01 39 32 20 75 (ENE) 2091 clear none 03:01 35 31 26 73 (ENE) 1747 clear wind, humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
