By then most of the clouds had cleared off. Seeing started out moderate but improved within an hours at the same time that the dust levels dropped. We had another rotator overcurrent, this time with DIS at a more neutral position -- like last night's overcurrent, this came soon after a rotator direction reversal, so that might be related. Fortunately this time it occurred quite soon after the start of an exposure, so only a little time was lost. Second half had variable high clouds, but we kept observing through most of it. There were two instances of trouble with NIC-FPS, each requiring a restart of the ICS and each costing about 5 minutes. Otherwise, everything went smoothly; echelle pointing was fine again. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM05 D T/H 21:30 21:36 Rotator overcurrent CU04 N I/S 01:55 02:00 NIC images all 65K CU04 N I/S 03:35 03:42 NIC hung on readout ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:34 DISslit -100(1088) 124 54 13.1/15.6 318 18 - 1.3 01:30 NA2GDR 75(1491) 196 54 11.5/11.5 279 7 R 0.84 02:06 nicfps 100(1509) 305 53 11.3/11.3 300 9 J 1.01 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 66 29 24 210 (SSW) 4272 ptly cldy none 17:01 67 27 27 224 (SW) 4452 ptly cldy none 18:01 62 19 20 253 (WSW) 3620 cirrus none 19:01 60 15 18 260 (W) 3593 cirrus none 20:01 57 12 12 268 (W) 4113 mstly clr none 21:01 54 11 7 338 (NNW) 3259 mstly clr none 22:01 54 17 13 310 (NW) 1539 mstly clr none 23:01 54 19 15 299 (WNW) 1260 mstly clr none 00:01 54 18 14 267 (W) 1453 ptly cldy none 01:01 53 15 11 282 (WNW) 1453 ptly cldy none 02:01 53 14 2 281 (W) 1453 ptly cldy none 03:01 54 14 11 233 (SW) 1453 ptly cldy none 04:01 51 11 5 255 (WSW) 1453 ptly cldy none 05:01 50 16 10 167 (SSE) 1453 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
