Dust levels were elevated all night, above the closure limit outside the dome. But judicious manipulation of fans, louvers, and doors kept the levels inside the dome manageable. The first-half observations were quite challenging and led to the discovery of some minor bugs in the new guide software, which is still being worked on. During the middle of the night I made an authorized pre-empt of science in order to obtain data for a pointing model. The results seem to show nothing grossly wrong with the telescope, but there are some mysterious subtleties that might or might not indicate something going on. Second half everything went smoothly, except for a target we couldn't find despite multiple coordinate checks, finding chart printouts, and three pointing reference stars in a triangle around the field. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 01:49 Echelle 10(28) -15775 8.6/8.0 216 11 ND1 1.01 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 53 8 18 270 (W) 2928 clear none 17:01 52 7 16 277 (W) 3311 clear none 18:01 52 7 28 306 (NW) 3451 clear none 19:01 52 7 16 297 (WNW) 2935 clear none 20:01 50 5 5 359 (N) 2894 clear none 21:01 49 6 5 351 (N) 2923 clear none 22:01 48 5 6 263 (W) 2972 clear none 23:01 48 6 11 245 (WSW) 2833 clear none 00:01 46 5 11 200 (SSW) 2915 clear none 01:01 47 7 9 206 (SSW) 3622 clear none 02:01 48 5 9 225 (SW) 3552 clear none 03:01 47 6 9 262 (W) 3814 clear none 04:01 45 8 4 261 (W) 3691 clear none 05:01 44 5 4 334 (NNW) 3459 clear none 06:01 47 4 12 43 (NE) 2907 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
