After we focused SPIcam, we were unable to do science through the clouds for most of second half. During the good seeing, I thought I saw behavior on the DIS slitviewer similar to that reported a couple of weeks ago for SPIcam: image elongation which was not aligned with either altitude or azimuth, and which changed orientation on the instrument slowly or not at all as the sky rotated. It was hard to be sure because of the aberrated nature of the slitviewer images, but the elongation may have been connected with some misbehavior of the tertiary mirror. I submitted a PR on this hypothesis, and we'll be looking for ways to improve the tertiary behavior and to test it as a possible cause of the image elongation. Unfortunately, the intermittent clouds second half made it impossible to check for this phenomenon with SPIcam tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:21 DISslit 25(855) 352 63 8.0/7.8 255 5 - 0.91 01:13 SPIcam 100(998) 18 71 8.6/6.3 255 5 r 0.93 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 51 6 10 282 (WNW) 1459 mstly clr none 17:01 49 4 8 325 (NW) 1490 mstly clr none 18:01 49 4 10 314 (NW) 1538 mstly clr none 19:01 47 3 5 273 (W) 1634 mstly clr none 20:01 47 5 12 307 (NW) 1764 mstly clr none 21:01 47 6 7 268 (W) 1749 cirrus none 22:01 47 6 8 226 (SW) 1628 cirrus none 23:01 46 4 6 181 (S) 1744 cirrus none 00:01 46 4 2 182 (S) 1781 ptly cldy none 01:01 47 5 5 197 (SSW) 1584 ptly cldy none 02:01 48 5 7 227 (SW) 1423 ptly cldy none 03:01 49 5 0 181 (S) 1228 ptly cldy none 04:01 49 5 1 158 (SSE) 1033 mstly cldy none 05:01 49 6 5 181 (S) 994 mstly cldy none 06:01 47 3 6 174 (S) 1232 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
