When we first switched to DIS, pointing was very badly messed up. It took me a while to figure out that the tertiary had failed to clamp into its slot when rotated to face DIS. A repeat of the tertrot command fixed it. On the following switch back to echelle, the same problem happened; this time I recognized it right away but had more difficulty getting it to clear up. I had to make multiple tertiary moves to multiple ports to get it to settle in the right place. There were also some very strange issues with pointing with DIS even after I got the tertiary at slot. DIS pointed badly (4 arcminutes off!) for Jupiter and fine for stars, suggesting bad coordinates; but the echelle pointed well for both stars and Jupiter (same coordinates), which is just bizarre. It's possible this could have been a magnesensor error during the first slew to Jupiter that I just missed, but I was keeping an eye out for such things, so it's pretty puzzling. Fortunately, the instruments worked well under trying conditions (super-short slitviewer exposures with DIS, alternate slits and many motor moves for echelle). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NM02 D T/H 01:28 01:36 tertrot didn't find slot NM02 E T/E 03:40 03:46 tertrot didn't find slot ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:51 Echelle 25(385) 136 60 12.2/15.3 254 3 ND2 0.80 01:41 DISslit 50(1136) 162 40 11.7/11.7 160 19 - 1.9 03:58 Echelle 0(258) 205 38 10.9/10.8 158 20 Clear 1.65 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 63 20 6 202 (SSW) 802 clear none 17:01 65 22 14 216 (SW) 722 clear none 18:01 61 20 10 245 (WSW) 703 clear none 19:01 60 20 8 252 (WSW) 696 clear none 20:01 53 18 2 256 (WSW) 748 clear none 21:01 54 18 4 259 (W) 835 clear none 22:01 54 17 3 213 (SSW) 861 clear none 23:01 54 17 3 128 (SE) 972 clear none 00:01 56 19 17 169 (SSE) 829 clear none 01:01 53 19 12 158 (SSE) 937 clear none 02:01 53 25 16 158 (SSE) 1274 clear none 03:01 52 28 16 151 (SSE) 1449 clear none 04:01 52 28 19 154 (SSE) 1322 clear none 05:01 51 29 19 158 (SSE) 1469 clear none 06:01 49 32 17 159 (SSE) 1368 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
