Seeing was excellent at the beginning of the night to moderate for the remainder of the night. We had one software feature bite us. This was a problem that we first saw back in May of 2004 that had occured once or twice since, that we now believe we understand the cause and what actions to take to recover from it. When an observer enters an inappropriate character in the vnc terminal with the "comments" command, the aiscam status window suddenly disappeared. It was not clear to any of the observers or obs-specs how to recover from this and bring back the status window. An extensive call to Povilas Palunas and we were back online with the added bonus of a fix if this happens again. The recovery proceedure has been documented in the observing specialists lore database. The end of the night was quite productive with the discovery of several new stellar jets. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- JH06 F I/S 23:30 00:28 loss of AISCAM status window in vnc ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:50 gfp 30(975) 254 78 7.1/7.5 282 12 I 0.9 19:03 NA2gdr -1084(31915) 259 74 7.4/7.4 272 14 clear 0.76 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 50 15 6 286 (WNW) 516 mstly clr none 17:01 49 16 8 281 (W) 528 mstly clr none 18:01 44 17 6 298 (WNW) 642 mstly clr none 19:01 45 17 10 276 (W) 541 mstly clr none 20:01 45 18 15 269 (W) 642 mstly cldy none 21:01 45 14 10 264 (W) 732 mstly cldy none 22:01 45 10 7 261 (W) 584 mstly cldy none 23:01 44 10 8 264 (W) 513 mstly cldy none 00:01 45 11 10 273 (W) 608 mstly cldy none 01:01 47 12 11 285 (WNW) 652 mstly clr none 02:01 47 13 16 305 (NW) 697 clear none 03:01 47 13 17 313 (NW) 636 clear none 04:01 46 13 25 313 (NW) 669 prtly cldy none 05:01 46 9 18 325 (NW) 480 prtly cldy none 06:01 46 9 14 319 (NW) 446 prtly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
