The dewpoint sensor was apparently refusing to report any dewpoint above freezing, so humidity in the afternoon was higher than reported, but the sensor began to report real values as the air dried and cooled after sunset. Humidity continued borderline for a while after we opened, but dropped by the time the telescope cooled. Skies were partly cloudy at first, becoming mostly clear by midnight, and seeing was poor but fairly stable. Second half turned out to be mostly "engineering" for the APOLLO team. They worked on a variety of software problems for several hours with the dome closed; the work that they were doing did require the tertiary pointing at BC1, so no other science was possible. Once we did get on the sky, seeing turned out to be very bad (estimate: over 3 arcseconds) and more variable than during first half. Between the bad seeing and some continuing glitches, no returns were obtained. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:12 DIS(blue) 50(721) 107 40 1.4/2.1 244 18 - 2.0 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 36 32 15 256 (WSW) 160383 cloudy fog 17:01 36 32 25 217 (SW) 536 mstly cldy humid 18:01 36 32 25 258 (WSW) 461 mstly cldy humid 19:01 35 28 24 247 (WSW) 362 ptly cldy none 20:01 35 27 20 240 (WSW) 311 ptly cldy none 21:01 34 29 17 229 (SW) 480 ptly cldy none 22:01 34 25 24 237 (WSW) 431 ptly cldy none 23:01 33 25 21 247 (WSW) 403 mstly clr none 00:01 32 24 21 243 (WSW) 418 mstly clr none 01:01 32 21 16 253 (WSW) 473 mstly clr none 02:01 31 18 20 259 (W) 558 mstly clr none 03:01 31 17 19 270 (W) 578 clear none 04:01 31 16 15 267 (W) 472 clear none 05:01 30 17 11 266 (W) 470 clear none 06:01 30 14 11 269 (W) 362 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
