The starting focus values for the echelle were rather odd, possibly because of strong temperature change in the last few days. Also, even after the telescope reached equilibrium, the focused stars appeared oddly shaped (sort of triangular) on the echelle slitviewer. This may mean a sizable collimation update will be needed during the upcoming engineering time. There was one crash of the echelle slitviewer, solved by rebooting the slitviewer PC; this took only 3 minutes, during which the observation continued without guiding. The DIS slitviewer shutter refused to open (really!) for the first few exposures after the instrument change, but it soon limbered up and behaved normally. No one asked the azimuth motors to track through a reversal, and everything else worked perfectly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:12 Echelle 206(102) 91 50 2.1/3.6 2 7 ND1 0.95 19:16 Echelle 50(-115) 239 56 3.1/2.8 179 2 ND1 0.78 21:37 Echelle 19(-220) 166 60 2.1/1.3 212 1 ND1 0.90 01:03 DISslit 40(490) 7 80 -0.6/-0.3 171 7 - 1.0 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 37 -5 1 223 (SW) 805 clear none 17:01 37 -5 0 177 (S) 917 clear none 18:01 36 -10 6 6 (N) 483 clear none 19:01 37 -8 1 111 (ESE) 628 clear none 20:01 34 -11 12 127 (SE) 624 clear none 21:01 36 -8 2 142 (SE) 568 clear none 22:01 36 -11 3 220 (SW) 431 clear none 23:01 34 -13 3 201 (SSW) 450 clear none 00:01 32 -14 7 201 (SSW) 472 clear none 01:01 31 -16 5 168 (SSE) 484 clear none 02:01 33 -15 7 179 (S) 478 clear none 03:01 32 -14 9 186 (S) 549 clear none 04:01 32 -15 9 183 (S) 655 clear none 05:01 34 -12 7 190 (S) 612 clear none 06:01 32 -14 12 197 (SSW) 732 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
