Seeing was very poor and they were getting much for returns under the poor conditions. I re-opened around 18:30 and finally got G.Wallersteins data tonight. Seeing was pretty awful though (2.5-4 arc sec). I handed the telescope back to G.Stringfellow around 19:25 and did a focus sweep (seeing was now in the 3.5 arc sec range). Guy decided to take some flats and cals and see if seeing improved after they were finished. 02:54:40UT (19:54MST) DIS shutter failed; dis home shutter fixed problem Seeing was horrible tonight, between 3 to 6 arc sec and variable. Wind was terrible too, bounce just above closure and then would calm down, then bounce just above closre and repeat the pattern. 21:15 DISslit shutter started sticking intermittently (2 sec exposures) I re-opened at 23:50 under marginal conditions and terrible seeing. DISslit shutter would intermittently stick, usually only for 1 or 2 frames. Shutter was sticking on 5-10sec exposure frames and a bit more frequently than earlier in the night. We seemed to have fewer problems with the sticky shutter after 02:20 (when we re-opened). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:28 APOLLO -150(355) -29 38 -4.4 -2.1 -3.2 -3.4 -3.9 -- 2.5 18:39 DISslit -291(-691) -43 74 -6.0 -4.2 -5.1 -5.1 -5.6 -- 3.2 19:27 DISslit -275(-707) 44 71 -6.3 -5.4 -6.0 -5.9 -6.3 -- 4.0 00:11 DISslit -206(-691) -121 55 -7.2 -7.1 -7.8 -7.7 -7.3 -- 2.6 02:26 DISslit -122(-655) 95 75 -8.1 -8.0 -8.4 -8.5 -8.3 -- 2.0 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:02 26 12 11 348 (NNW) 219 clear none 17:02 25 13 32 3 (N) 240 Mst.
