Apollo got returns through the wind. Then we switched to the Echelle. The Echelle focus script worked fine. At about 22:00 we switched to NICFPS. Seeing was fair to moderate all 1st half. 2nd half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Second half had clear skies until 5 am, with moderate to awful seeing. After 5 the humidity increased and we struggled with low, fast-moving clouds; the observers didn't get very many photons, so I counted the time as useless. Everything important worked, but there were some weirdnesses: the monitor for newton kept complaining that there was "no signal" even when there clearly was; it would go to sleep and then wake up with a click a few seconds later even when the machine was in use. On the DIS slitviewer, there was an unfamiliar bright border on the left edge of the image, which frequently got marked as the default star for guiding. Even when it didn't fall for the bright edge, I never saw the guiding software pick a reasonable star as the default even once, which is a worse record than usual. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:10 EchSlit -119(-1065) -136 63 1.8 1.6 1.1 1.3 1.5 -- 1.2 22:30 NICFPS -44(311) 197 38 1.4 0.7 0.2 0.4 0.8 -- 1.4 00:17 DISslit -125(-339) 172 70 0.2 -0.02 -0.52 -0.32 -0.2 - 1.35 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:01 36 27 15 264 (W) 721 mstly clr none 17:01 36 22 31 244 (WSW) 570 mstly clr none 18:01 35 24 25 266 (W) 565 clear none 19:01 35 23 20 264 (W) 638 clear none 20:01 35 24 19 232 (SW) 628 clear none 21:01 35 22 17 251 (WSW) 545 clear none 22:01 34 21 18 243 (WSW) 526 clear none 23:01 34 22 17 224 (SW) 552 clear none 00:01 32 23 13 250 (WSW) 661 clear none 01:01 32 22 13 244 (WSW) 645 clear none 02:01 31 20 12 264 (W) 531 clear none 03:01 30 19 17 265 (W) 500 clear none 04:01 29 19 17 271 (W) 462 clear none 05:01 28 21 12 234 (SW) 612 ptly cldy none 06:01 27 20 11 259 (W) 558 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
