Complete overcast with radar returns moving into the area at 5:30pm. Raining at 6:00, socked in fog at sunset. Raining most of 1st half. Holtzman's class was able to do some NICFPS cals and test some dither scripts. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan Clouds, rain, and fog second half. I told the APOLLO spotters not to bother coming in and sent the second half observer to bed. I did some laser testing and then racked up some more hours scratching my head over recent perplexing focus data. I imagined a trend and made a change to the focus vs. temperature algorithm accordingly. Tomorrow I may imagine a different trend. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 52 45 10 138 (SE) 563 cloudy none 17:00 51 45 17 136 (SE) 591 cloudy humid 18:00 49 42 1 189 (S) 274 cloudy lt rain 19:00 44 44 15 8 (N) 9249 cloudy fog 20:00 44 44 0 23 (NNE) 218 cloudy rain,fog 21:00 45 44 4 182 (S) 929 cloudy rain,fog 22:00 46 45 5 122 (ESE) 709 cloudy rain,fog 23:00 44 45 5 186 (S) 8025 cloudy rain,fog 00:00 44 44 3 224 (SW) 197 cloudy rain,fog 01:00 44 44 8 177 (S) 104 cloudy rain,fog 02:00 43 44 12 217 (SW) 4864 cloudy rain,fog 03:00 43 44 14 219 (SW) 5434 cloudy rain,fog 04:00 43 44 7 225 (SW) 8161 cloudy rain,fog 05:00 43 43 3 301 (WNW) 244 cloudy rain,fog Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
