Sure enough one of the lamps was bad. I replaced it and on we went. I did notice that spectra cts with the covers closed were significantly higher than with the covers open (about 50% higher). This was after I replaced the He lamp. I only checked the Blue side. We had the DIS slitviewer background counts suddenly climb. This was the same thing that happened at the end of last night, except this time it happened around 21:45 in the evening. Craig was online so he saw firsthand what was going on. Said it appeared to be a sw problem and Fritz was supposed to have fixed something to make it not do that. PR submitted and directed to Fritz. Craig has more notes on what was going on which I am sure he will pass along. The observer had some problems getting the guider going, I think it was more user inexperience than software. I took over and didn't have any real problem getting the guider to function correctly, but he described what he did and I don't know he did anything really that wrong either but apparently something. I think he might have started guiding after doing an offset but not taking a final slit image for the guider to find guidestars.
