The first half observers spent some time unable to get anything because of clouds; although we didn't close, I estimated about one hour was lost in this way. The DIS slitviewer once again had a sticky shutter at the beginning of the night, but it worked consistently once it got limbered up. The second half observer was having computer troubles at the remote end and also wouldn't be able to reach his main target for the first hour of his time, so he let the first half observers go over. Since that was an informal swap, I logged the time as scheduled. Once we got going with NIC-FPS, I noticed that it was taking nearly 10s delays between exposures -- something I had missed during checkout. When the observer was between dither scripts, I rebooted the ICC to fix the problem. But on restart, the ICC couldn't connect to the NFS server. After some head-scratching, I noticed the /home disk on tycho was full (partly because observers insist on putting fits images in /home/visitor1), and this might be related. I freed up some space on tycho and rebooted the ICC again, and this got it going again with no delay between images. A little later, NIC froze during readout for unknown reasons. It wouldn't accept a stop command because it said there was no exposure in progress, but it also wouldn't start a new one. I got it going by restarting the nub, and then zeroing offsets to get the observer back to the start of his script. After that, everything went well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UW04 N I/S 02:30 02:52 ICC reboot failed; disk full UW04 N I/S 03:15 03:20 froze on readout ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:39 DISslit -50(411) 33 60 -1.9/-0.9 142 2 - 1.8 01:25 NICFPS 75(939) 130 27 -4.0/-4.2 256 10 J 1.4 02:56 NICFPS 100(876) 153 40 -4.7/-4.7 264 7 J 1.3 05:24 Echelle 10(-500) 181 54 -4.4/-5.4 3 2 Clear 1.05 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 33 12 11 228 (SW) 2178 ptly cldy none 17:01 28 12 6 200 (SSW) 2057 mstly cldy none 18:01 27 13 5 106 (ESE) 2208 mstly cldy none 19:01 29 12 2 196 (SSW) 1595 mstly cldy none 20:01 27 11 7 138 (SE) 1828 ptly cldy none 21:01 27 13 8 175 (S) 2081 ptly cldy none 22:01 25 14 5 178 (S) 2243 mstly clr none 23:01 26 15 12 219 (SW) 2489 clear none 00:01 27 16 7 209 (SSW) 2314 clear none 01:01 25 15 9 231 (SW) 2221 clear none 02:01 25 15 7 263 (W) 2316 clear none 03:01 24 15 5 261 (W) 1985 clear none 04:01 25 15 2 272 (W) 2314 clear none 05:01 24 15 4 358 (N) 1867 mstly clr none 06:01 23 15 6 17 (NNE) 1808 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
