This cirrus was thin to moderate thickness. One micron particle dust levels were quite varible and between 2000 - 3000 in the dome all of first half. We operated the fans to keep the dust levels below closure conditions. Seeing in the IR was still sub-arcsecond. No other problems. 2nd Half Observing Specialist: R.McMillan I was hoping to get a CorMASS instrument block second half, but the InstDataFit software is in an unusable state, I had some trouble talking to the instrument, and then the weather turned photometric. So instead I took some bright-object spectra with DIS to quantify the improvement in the blue scattered light, and a bunch of standards with NIC-FPS to get proper color terms for the instrument. The standard observations took longer than expected, so I didn't have time for a collimation check or pointing model, but those appear to be fine anyway. By morning, I had communications working with CorMASS and the instrument was seeing light, but I was still having trouble with the flip-mirror controls. This will need to be addressed before the run this weekend; as for an instrument block, we might or might not need to take a little time to measure one for the sake of decent pointing. The forecast high winds never happened, but dust (with the dome dust counter) was borderline all night. The mirrors might want a CO2 cleaning. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:33 nicfps 25(1096) -24 55 2.4/3.6 274 12 H2-2.120.87 02:52 NIC 225(1150) 171 62 1.0/0.6 267 17 J 1.05 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 38 -4 11 269 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 17:01 36 -5 9 275 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 18:01 37 -7 11 263 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 19:01 38 -7 19 264 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 20:01 37 -5 16 267 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 21:01 37 -4 18 268 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 22:01 36 -6 19 283 (WNW) - prtly cldy cirrus 23:01 36 -7 17 272 (W) - prtly cldy cirrus 00:01 36 -7 18 266 (W) ptly cldy none 01:01 35 -7 17 266 (W) mstly clr none 02:01 34 -6 14 266 (W) clear none 03:01 34 -5 12 275 (W) clear none 04:01 34 -7 16 268 (W) clear none 05:01 34 -7 14 267 (W) clear none 06:01 32 -5 14 266 (W) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
