McMillan A productive night of NIC-FPS engineering. The CU team solved another filter wheel problem, separate from the previous one. We got on the sky at 20:45 and obtained an instrument block, field distortion measurements, slit focus data, and a number of spectra. As the cirrus grew thicker, it was harder to make progress on the list of tasks for recommissioning, but progress continued with work on a focus script. When the NIC-FPS team weren't available to do anything more under the weather conditions, I mounted DIS to work on the red camera focus. Either because the wind had changed or because we were working in the visible instead of IR, the seeing was noticeably worse for the DIS work, but with help from John Barentine I was able to improve the focus agreement between the red camera and the slitviewer. After I was done with DIS, there was some discussion of whether or not to continue working with NIC-FPS, but the conclusion was that they couldn't do anything more in the current weather. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEGDFNVO) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Air/Truss Wind Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp-C Dir MPH filt FWHM --------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:09 NICFPS -15(1615) 163 72 16.1/17.6 229 5 H 0.64 03:43 DISslit -50(1199) 116 42 16.3/15.8 6 6 - 1.47 03:47 DIS(blue) -50(1199) 117 43 16.1/15.8 354 6 - 1.43 03:55 DIS(red) -175(1068) 119 44 16.1/15.8 1 6 - 1.72 04:13 DIS(red) -50(1186) 123 48 16.1/15.7 9 5 - 1.44 04:13 DIS(blue) -50(1186) 123 48 16.1/15.7 9 5 - 1.78 04:21 DISslit -70(1150) 125 49 15.8/15.7 9 8 - 1.25 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:01 67 42 7 265 (W) ptly cldy none 17:01 70 42 12 242 (WSW) ptly cldy none 18:01 68 41 2 274 (W) ptly cldy none 19:01 63 41 8 267 (W) ptly cldy none 20:01 62 40 2 259 (W) ptly cldy none 21:01 61 40 5 226 (SW) ptly cldy none 22:01 63 40 4 209 (SSW) ptly cldy none 23:01 63 40 3 249 (WSW) ptly cldy none 00:01 63 40 1 263 (W) ptly cldy none 01:01 63 40 0 345 (NNW) ptly cldy none 02:01 61 40 5 332 (NNW) ptly cldy none 03:01 61 41 4 339 (NNW) ptly cldy none 04:01 61 41 6 6 (N) ptly cldy none 05:01 61 40 0 72 (ENE) ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
